NetHope
Open Humanitarian Initiative

February 2013 – November 2013
Birmingham, UK – Washington, DC

NetHope is an American consortium of 50 American non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that specialize in improving IT connectivity among humanitarian organizations in developing countries and areas affected by disaster.

The OHI is an initiative of NetHope that builds on existing open data efforts to bring together actors in the humanitarian response system.

Role

Organized and facilitated digital responders and backend developers to define the technical needs to share information across the humanitarian sector. Worked asynchronously as well as a two-location synchronous hackathon to push the shared projects forward. Later made political decisions easier because excuses for sharing had been removed.
