The United Nations (UN) is an intergovernmental organization to promote international co-operation. Its objectives include maintaining international peace and security, promoting human rights, fostering social and economic development, protecting the environment, and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict.
The Office of Coordinated Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is designed to strengthen the UN’s response to complex emergencies and natural disasters. The agency’s activities include organization and monitoring of humanitarian funding, as well as information exchange, coordination and rapid-response teams for emergency relief.
